What is it about a book that first catches someone’s attention?

I think that it’s the book’s cover, since that’s obviously the first thing people see. And if you don’t like the cover, then why would you even stop to read the summary on the back? With that in mind, most publishers are trying harder than ever to create eye-catching covers in an effort to get somebody to read their book.

I personally like the really detailed covers, the ones that seem like a lot of effort were put into them, or even just ones that have great color schemes. However, there are some of my friends who enjoy simplistic covers that aren’t cluttered or overfilled. So what exactly makes a “good” cover? Well that’s something that even the publishers have trouble figuring out.
Here are some of my favorite covers:
Divergent by Veronica Roth
The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen

Katherine, 14, Igo TAG
and some more favorite covers from IGO TAG:
The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter
Matched by Allie Condie
Fallen by Lauren Kate
So you want to be a Wizard? by Diane Duane

Brianna, 15 Kiersten, 18 Nicole, 17 IGO TAG
