Library Palooza!

The event’s name seems to tongue-tie people without even trying. Others were simply tongue-tied because they were meeting six young adult authors.

I had the amazing opportunity to meet Ellen Schreiber (pictured above with myself and Ms Barbara, our teen librarian), author of the Vampire Kisses series, the Full Moon series, and others. In all, she has 16 books published in English, and one that’s only published in Dutch. (A language, it should be noted, that Ellen does not speak or read.)

Ellen Schreiber has been one of my favorite authors since I first picked up Vampire Kisses when I was in the sixth grade. When I began to read that book, I fell in love. Raven, the main character, embodied everything that I wanted to be: strong, rebellious, and comfortable with who she was as a person. Middle school and high school have been tough, and it’s characters like Raven that keep me going.

Imagine my shock when I found out that I would not only be meeting Ellen for a moment and getting her books signed, but had been chosen to escort her as her student guide. I had the amazing opportunity to spend all day with her. It’s a book fangirl’s dream come true.

Ellen is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and I learned so much from listening to her sessions and just talking with her. I gained new insight on why she wrote her books and who Raven was as a person. Saturday, 25 February 2012 is definitely a day that will go down in my mind as one of the best days of my life.
