Tutoring at Landa- Update

P1020296P1020716This past Sunday, we had three students, and we were delighted to meet two new tutors, Sam and Nate, who have been a great help in the past couple of weeks while tutoring kids in Math. I conducted a mini teen tutor training session and created an outline. Expressed on the outline, our goal is to make the student feel comfortable, and as tutors we try to find alternate teaching methods when one does not work, because it’s important to teach the child in a way that they will benefit from.

Log books were also introduced where the tutors log the activities, progress, and brief overview of each session. My student and I did an alphabet sounds chart to hang in his room. Because each letter has more than one sound, we explored the various words and letter combinations. This exercise will help him with reading comprehension. He also returned with his library book, “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O”, a children’s book by Shel Silverstein, which he decided to renew so could read it again. Next week, we will conclude our alhphabet chart and proceed with more reading comprehension practices.

Tutoring is every Sunday from 2:30- 3:30pm, so if you know anyone between the grades kinder through fifth, have them stop by Landa Library!
