Teen Review: “The Future of Us” by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler

Josh and Emma were best friends up until a year ago, but a AOL CD-ROM mailed to Josh brings them back together. This book is set in 1996 when very few people have computers. Emma does, though, so Josh’s mother sends him over with the CD to give to Emma to use. Once downloaded, Facebook pops up. The only problem is that it hasn’t been invented yet. Emma and Josh have stumbled across a way to look at what they are doing 30 years in the future. Every time they get on, their future has changed based on what they’ve done since the last time they got on. The slightest decision creates ripples that dramatically alters their future. Would you look into your future if you could, even if there were a chance you didn’t like it?
