Teen Review: “The Hound of Rowan” by Henry H. Neff

Max McDaniels lives with his father in Chicago’s present-day suburbs. When he encounters a mysterious tapestry, all of that is changed. He finds himself headed off to a school, called the Rowan Academy, for people with magical abilities. He finds himself to be more gifted as a warrior, whereas his super smart roommate has incredible magical talents. At this school with magical creatures, wonky dorm rooms, and crazy games, Max finds himself caught in a struggle between good and evil. The survival of mankind rests in the hands of the Rowan Academy. I liked this book and the creative, magical world within. It actually reminded me of a cross between “Harry Potter” and “The Lightning Thief”.
