Teen Review: “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer

In New Beijing, humans, androids, and cyborgs live amongst each other. The Earth is being destroyed by a horrible plague that takes only days to kill its victims. Cinder, a cyborg, lives with her evil stepmother and two stepsisters and provides an income for them by being a mechanic. Through her job, Cinder meets Prince Kai and is asked to fix his android, who contains classified information that may save the Earth from the cruel Lunars who are attempting a takeover. When Cinder’s stepsister is infected with the plague, Cinder’s stepmother is furious and sends Cinder off to be a test subject for the plague. Once tested, Cinder discovers a secret about her past. Will the plague be cured in time for her sister and will Prince Kai marry the Lunars’ evil queen? I liked this book because of its original spin on Cinderella. Instead of losing her shoe in this book, Cinder loses her foot.
