Teen Review: “Desires of the Dead” by Kimberly Derting

Reporting a body Violet has found to the FBI puts her secret abilities at risk. Whenever someone dies before their time, they emit a distinct sound, smell, or light that draws Violet to them. But it isn’t just the dead; their killers carry around a matching imprint, as well. This talent could make her invaluable to solving crimes. Special consultant, Sarah Priest, is itching to have her on her crime-solving team. When two new students move to their small town, a brother and a sister, Violet’s list of worries grow even longer. Someone starts to send hateful messages to her, and it somehow is connected to these two new students. Jay, Violet’s constant companion, befriends the brother, Mike, making him unavailable for her to turn to. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to open her circle to this new group of crime solvers?
