Teen Review: “Glow” by Amy Kathleen Ryan

Waverly, a 15-year-old girl, and Kieran, a 16-year-old boy, are the first children born on their home spaceship, the Empyrean. The spaceship was sent out on its mission to colonize New Earth over 40 years ago. All of those years have been spent in peace until the other spaceship, the New Horizon, slows itself down, allowing the Empyrean to catch up to meet in a nebula. The New Horizon’s crew is in danger of becoming extinct because it has yet to be able to produce new offspring. So stuck in this nebula, unable to see clearly, the Empyrean’s long years of peace have stopped abruptly. The New Horizon’s crew forces entry onto the ship and steals all of the girls. At the same time, the The Empyrean is left mangled and without adults. So while Waverly is trying to find herself and all of the girls a way home, Kieran is struggling to maintain some control on their damaged ship. The longer this book goes on, the less clear it is who is good and who is bad. Maybe their peaceful home wasn’t as spotless as they originally thought? This book was a fun Sci Fi read that kept me hooked until the very end and onto the next installation in the series
