Teen Review: “The Clockwork Scarab” by Colleen Gleason

If you are a Sherlock or Dracula fan, this book should appeal to you. It is written from the perspective of Evaline Stoker, sister of Bram Stoker, Dracula’s author, and Mina Holmes, niece of Sherlock Holmes. Evaline, coming from a family of vampire hunters, and Mina, descending from brilliant people, are recruited by a member of the British royal family to look into the mysterious deaths and kidnappings of society girls. All of the girls have been found with clockwork scarabs in their possession. This leads the two young detectives into a world of sinister Egyptian clubs and even the impossible time travel. This books was a fun read that brought in well-known characters but made the story female empowering.
