Candy Sushi!!!

Our first official meeting of the Teen Anime Club at the Encino Library last week went really well. We introduced ourselves, discussed our favorite animes and mangas, and talked about some of the stuff we wanted to do during our club meetings…

So for our second official meeting, we wanted to do something super awesome. Something super crazy. Something super cool. And, of course, our favorite thing to do…something super delicious. What did we do? We made…candy sushi!! (and candy nigiri and sashimi, too!)

We started off with a cart full of goodies. Here’s our ingredient list:

  • Marshmallows = sushi rice
  • Fruit by the Foot = nori (seaweed)
  • Swedish fish = sashimi (raw fish)
  • Rainbow Nerds, Red Hots, and Sprinkles = tobiko (flying fish roe)
  • Twizzlers and Gummy Worms = other assorted fillings
  • Frosting = wasabi, soy sauce, and other dipping sauces

And using those key ingredients, we used our imaginations to make delicious sushi-, nigiri-, and sashimi-inspired treats!

What goes deliciously with candy sushi? French fries, duh!

We started to get really creative in how we could manipulate the candies into looking like different ingredients.

We also played a few rounds of “Guess that Anime Opening!” while working on our treats, and (as a group) we knew most of them! Guess we really are otakus, eh? 🙂

The Teen Anime Club meets at the Encino Library every Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Teen Room. From anime to manga to cosplay to J-POP, we love it all! Come check our club out!
