The Anime Games

You probably know what the Hunger Games are…right?

So what happens when you add in some anime?!

The Teen Anime Club at the Encino Branch Library had its first Anime Games competition this past Monday! The idea for the Games came from last month’s Trivia Night—but to make it a little more fair to everyone (rather than catering to only super otaku members), the Anime Games were a little more competition-based rather than solely anime-based. Teens “sponsored” an anime character to send into the games on their behalf, and then went through 4 different rounds to see who would win!

Here’s our scoreboard (we found out neon dry erase markers are awesome and look really cool on our glass doors):

ROUND 1: INSTINCT

  • To test the instinct of their chosen anime character, teens had to play 3 rounds of BeanBoozled, the delicious and disgusting jelly bean game from Jelly Belly. Points were assessed based on their accuracy in determining the flavor before tasting the jelly bean, as well as whether or not they actually ate the candy.

ROUND 2: KNOWLEDGE

  • To survive the Anime Games, the anime characters also needed to be knowledgeable about their own lives! 15 anime trivia questions were asked, and teens were allowed to form alliances to help win them some more points.

ROUND 3: AGILITY

  • But anime characters also need some speed to win the Games! Using chopsticks and only one hand, teens dug for marshmallows in a bowl full of cheerios and placed the marshmallows in a cup.

ROUND 4: STRENGTH

  • And last but not least…the anime characters had to fight to claim their title as champion. The six highest-scoring teens battled it out in a few rounds of Super Smash Bros. to determine who had the strength to survive!
