Parman Teen Book Review: “When breath becomes air” by Paul Kalanithi

when breath becomes air

Paul Kalanithi’s memoir (with an afterword from his wife), is a book that I would recommend to all readers without regard to one’s age, interests, or any other differences that distinguish us. Kalanithi’s candid, heartfelt writing will appeal to all, and his passion for his calling is truly inspiring. What I enjoyed most about this book is that Kalanithi does not try to glorify his life or his accomplishments; rather, he ponders his purpose and admits how he has doubted himself, his abilities, and even his marriage at times during his life. Kalanithi’s introspection and honesty spoke to me personally as a reader, and his poetic diction proves that he is a literary genius. Kalanithi is a prime example of what a life well lived looks like. Overall, When Breath Becomes Air is a definite must-read.
