Parman Teen Book Review:”The Wonder Trail: True Stories from Los Angeles to the End of the World” by Steve Hely

wondertrailI do not read much nonfiction, but the premise of this book intrigued me because 1) I love traveling and 2) I enjoy reading about others’ life experiences, especially regarding how the discovery of new cultures can alter the way one views the world. Hely’s book is perfect for individuals who fit in either category as he describes his down-to-earth and exhilarating journey from California to the tip of South America, on foot whenever possible. Hely’s voice is authentic and humorous, and I could not help but laugh out loud at the honest manner in which he portrayed both the fortunate and unfortunate situations he got himself into. I also really loved how Hely chose to focus on obscure details instead of stereotypical tourist attractions in all the places he visited, and how he demonstrated the effect the people he met had on molding his own spiritual and emotional identity. Hely’s optimism and love for life is infectious, and The Wonder Trail is sure to inspire teens and adults alike.~Niraja~Parman TLLC
