September @ Encino

Posted in Teen Fall, teen library services, Uncategorized with tags , on October 1, 2017 by encinolibraryteens

What’s up September/Fall/Autumn! Encino Teens have had a spectacular September with the arrival of a new program and the continuation of some oldies but goodies. Our inaugural teen board gaming (a program made by and for Encino Teens!) kicked off this month with gamers playing clue, emoji uno, and the resistance. We had so much fun guessing who was a spy and who was a part of the resistance. Fun fact- it’s hard to keep a straight face during this game :O

Teen club this month was action packed and filled with varied gaming and craftiness. We kept up our perler bead artistry and made some cool stuff with modeling clay. Encino Teens had a special visit from *BABY GROOT* for teen screen this month!! Who came all the way from somewhere in the nine realms to watch himself kick some butt on the big screen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

September’s weekly anime club has been keeping the drama and comedy high with screenings of Gurren Lagann and Punchline. And because we know you care about our snack game — we also managed to munch on some cookies and candy this month as well as slurp some smoothies.

Come join us in October for Halloween inspired programs and our epic ENCINO COSPLAY CON happening on Saturday, October 21st from 2 to 5. Wear your best costume, come hang out with fellow cosplayers, win prizes and make some crafts!

August @ Encino

Posted in Crafts, Games & Gaming, San Antonio Public Library, teen library services, Uncategorized with tags , , on September 7, 2017 by encinolibraryteens

Encino Teens *brought it* to the teen room in August allowing us to turn up the volume on all our programs before the beginning of the school year. Chef Justin was back from the Food Bank with teens making delicacies from Asia and France. YUM! We continued our video game domination with epic super smash battles and mario kart races. Plus we pulled out some old favorites like Clue, Jenga, and Banagrams to round out our Teen Gaming nights.

We had two final movie nights to finish off summer 2017 featuring the stunning new Beauty and The Beast and the epic King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Haven’t seen them? We think you should!

Craft time! Y’all know we get crafty up here. This month we tried some new stuff –> printmaking and tie dye! Both came out so awesome!! For our last Teen Tuesday we took our crafting outside making tie dye pillowcases that the teens got to take home. Hilarity ensued when some teens forgot to use gloves and dyed their hands as well as the fabric…. Oh well, tie dye hands are a thing too right? ALSO! We *upgraded* our slime from last month with glittery clear slime. So stretchy and slimy!

Anime Club was full of old and new faces in August, culminating an awesome summer of Anime watching! Teens picked Deathnote, Full Metal Alchemist, Blood Blockade Battlefront, and Punch Line to watch throughout the month.

We know you’re bummed that summer is over and you have to go to school 😦 … BUT! turn that frown upside down and come hang with us in September! More gaming, movies, anime, snacks, crafts and who knows what else coming your way! Help us decide @ the Encino Library!

Landa Teens : May ’17

It’s the end of the semester and we have been doing All The Things : we started off May by doing our first Suggestion Box event : SLIME part II! It was super goopy goodness. We marbled with acrylics making marbled paper and mugs – perfect for gifting to our moms for Mothers Day – and had a reboot of Ziplock icecream with a Moana sing -a-long.

Our HelloGoodbye Bash (just your typical End of School Year – Landa Closing – Summer Starting Celebration) was pretty awesome, too. We made bots out of LEDs and clay, tried a round 2 of switch-plate decor, ate sooo much pizza and got prepped for summer reading. Oh yeah – we tested out Landa’s green screen too – it was epic.

Alright, that’s it for us –  Happy summer! We’ll see ya in the Fall.

Landa Teens’ April Hangouts

This April, Landa Teens celebrated Poetry Month with bad haikus, honored Fiesta with Paper flower making, had Cooking Club : Pancake Art edition, and finally completed / revealed the  Teen Night Suggestion Box — Teens worked hard to make it “Glamorous with a bit of Crazy”. Deciding which protocols would be followed to choose each week’s event was also a challenge, but they agreed on a Plan of Action and were so excited to do even more in leading Teen Night. Big props to Teen Volunteer Cortney who led the project. Well done, Landa Peeps!
