Tory Brennan and the other Virals are still getting a lot of publicity from the last book when they took down the Game Master, a sinister villain responsible for the deaths of many people. With Tory not talking to him and his getting kicked out of Bolton Prep, Ben is spinning out of hand. He has started flaring regularly in public with no regard for the safety of the pack. But that is the least of the Virals’ problems. Their flaring is becoming irregular and dangerous. This special gift could actually be hurting them, not to mention Chance Claybourne, who is closer than ever to finding out the Virals’ secrets and exposing them. Soon, the Virals’ Game Master ordeal is eclipsed by the kidnapping of two of their classmates from Bolton. The police have nothing, and knowing the Virals, they have to investigate. This fourth book of the Virals series is an intriguing mystery. I really had a fun time reading this most recent book!

The team of Virals, now prosperous from their last adventure with pirate treasure, are enjoying an easy life. Of course with the Virals, that never lasts. They find a geocache on Loggerhead Island. A geocache is is an item someone hid and uploaded the position online so that other people can find it and hide something different in its place. Finding the geocache traps the team in a warped plot orchestrated by The Gamemaster. They have to keep playing, or else the lives of innocent people are at risk. Can they get ahead in the game or will they be trapped in a downward spiral of this unidentified threat? This third book really pushes the Virals’ talents to the limit while still having to deal with normal life.

In the second “Virals” novel, Tory Brennan and her group of friends use their special abilities to find the hidden treasure of the pirate Anne Bonney. The island and research institute, Loggerhead, that first created The Four Virals is now in danger of being shut down for funding issues, and the treasure might be their only hope. But as always, it is never so easy for Tory and her pack. Other very hostile people are looking for the treasure, as well, and Tory and her friends’ special abilities will be challenged. This book does not disappoint in continuing on the “Viral” action/mystery series. I hope you enjoy it!

Teen Review: “Virals” by Kathy Reichs

The TV show “Bones” is based off of books by Kathy Reichs. On top of writing adult books, she started a series for teens going off of the story of Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist. The main character, Tory Brennan, is the niece of Temperance. After the untimely death of her mother, Tory goes to live on an island inhabited mostly by scientists who work in a lab an island away. After poking around the research island, Tory and her group of friends rescue the puppy of a wild pack of dogs. When rescuing the dog, they are exposed to a parvovirus that gives them the reflexes and heightened senses of dogs. After finding a dead body buried on the island, the group decides to put their skills and newly acquired gifts to use by solving the murder and the conspiracy behind it. If you like “Bones” or any mystery shows, I would recommend taking a look at this action-packed cliffhanger book.
